Because abortion is commonplace in the area and can cause fatal consequences for the fetus and also for the mother, this was an important conference.
Presenters were Dr. Celestin Kadima, a physician, Mr. Marcel Kadimba, a psychologist, Mr. Richard Mukendi, an attorney of the Court of Mbujimayi and secretary of the Mbujimayi Bar, and Church Leader President Kalonji N'Sumbu.
Topics included, "Issue of abortion, a medical perspective," "Abortions impact psychologically,"
"What is Congolese Law on Abortion," and "The Church's views on the practice of abortion."
After the speakers, participants were invited to ask questions. Leaders of many different faiths, journalists, heads of urban youth services, and students participated.
Mr Marcel Ilunga, psychologist, encouraged and congratulated The Church for the initiative, and thanked them for the opportunity to help awaken the population.
Being broadcast in all of the DR Congo via Radio Television Nationale Congolaise/Kinshasa allowed the Governor Alphonse Ngoyi Kasanji of Kasai to watch. He asked his steward to call President Kalonji to express his gratitude. He also stated, "All churches must follow this way."
Journalists from many radio and television channels were present; Radio Television National Congolaise, RTOP, RFT, RTL and RTDK covered this important conference.
